Whitmer Volunteer Fire Department company 43. is 1 of 10 fire departments located in Randolph county West Virginia. Co. 43 was founded on June 14, 1967.
Whitmer VFD serves large portion of the eastern part of Randolph County (the largest county in West Virginia.) Most the first due territory that Co.43 serves is rural and forest covered. to include the Gandy Creek area of Monongahela National Forest and Spruce knob lake.
Co.43 responds to multiple different emergency incident to include Fires, car accidents, search and rescues, medical assistance, and natural disasters.
Co. 43 has 20 active volunteer members. With no paid staff our department depends on it's dedicated volunteers to take the the time out of there personal life to train and serve their community with constant learning and up most professionalism,
Co. 43 also is proud to run a Junior Firefighter Program. allowing juveniles ages 16-17 to learn discipline and responsibility has they grow while serving the community they are being raised in.
First Members were Fred Sites, Elwood Armentrout, Luciane Wymer, Elwood Sites and Roscoe Thompson
The community of Whitmer and surrounding communities join in to help raise money, donate, and build the first fire station, with out the support of the community Whitmer VFD may had never came about. Some Other names that helped with the start up of WVFD are. Dick Vance, Arnold Vance, Dick White, Hermie Tingler, Punk Sites, Louie Wymer, Orville Thompson, Ron Cross, John Cunningham, Dwyer Judy.

The chief of Whitmer VFD is currently Chief Clarence Turner. Chief Turner has been serving the department and his community with the rank of chief since 1984.
Additional Whitmer VFD has multiple Line officers who continue to train and assist Chief Turner in the day to day operations of the department.
